OK adventures with a little AR included

I'm a little behind.  This is from a few weeks ago.  Anyway, one thing that has been kind of difficult for us to deal with since we've been in OK is the lack of 'outdoorsy' things there are to do here.  We really miss the mountains and the pines and camping and whatnot.  Since Nate has had a few days off in a row (here and there) we decided to go out and explore some of Oklahoma's so-called mountains.  So we went into the Ouachita mnts. in southeastern OK.  They aren't nearly as impressive as the Rocky Mnts. but it was nice to see something other than flat land and deciduous trees.

We drove the Talimena Scenic Byway from Oklahoma into Arkansas and then we drove a forest road over Poteau Mountain in Arkansas.  The views were very pretty and we had fun driving on some dirt forest roads.  Here are some pictures of that trip.

It looks like there is smoke in all of the scenic views but it is actually the humidity in the air.

The 2nd day of the Talimena trip was very foggy.  So foggy that we didn't get to see any of the views from the Arkansas side of the byway.  Nate and Lilly went on a little hike in the woods (while I fed Carter) and said it was like a rain forest.  It wasn't raining out in the open but was dripping in the woods.

This was taken at about 9:30 in the morning.  It was sunny in the valley.

Hooray! For dirt roads
