Going into the GILA!!!

A couple weeks ago we traded in our Impala (which was getting a lot of miles on it) for a Mitsubishi Montero Sport. We really wanted something that we could take off road and go camping in. And if you know us well, you know we love to be outdoors. So to test out the new SUV we decided that we would go explore the Gila National Forrest, which is North of Las Cruces.

We had quite the little two day adventure which ended with the curviest road we've ever been on and Lilly getting car sick on two different occasions. Seriously it was 30+ miles of nothing but very tight turns going up the mountain and then back down. I've been on a lot of mountain roads and this almost made me car sick. Needless to say we had a lot of fun but were very happy to be home. So here are some pictures to document our little adventure. I promise there are no pictures of Lilly getting sick. Here we go...

Some of the Wildlife in New Mexico

Road Runner

Big ole fatty Antelope

Thanksgiving Dinner...Or the biggest flock of wild turkey I've ever seen. Too bad its not turkey season. These were right off the road.

We Love the Great Outdoors

Lilly loves rocks and just had to pick one up every time we stopped. This is just one of the many.

This is along the Catwalk National Trail. It weaves through a canyon about 20 ft above a creek. I was a little freaked out but survived.

Nate being proud of the dirt he's accumulated on the Montero. You can't see it, but its there.

Going off Road

driving across a creek

One of the many dirt roads we went down. It looks pretty smooth in this picture but they got much worse.

Lilly enjoying the very bumpy ride. She did get a little nervous on a couple parts of the dirt roads, but most of the time she was smiling. She's definitely a Brown.
