Adventures with the Browns

I love it when Nate is on a break from school because we go on adventures. We are finding that there are a ton of really cool places to go here in New Mexico, mainly because Nate goes looking for them. But it is so fun getting to know the history of the area and seeing the geographical anomalies. Our latest adventure took us off the beaten path, on to rocky roads, and to the City of Rocks and Fort Cummings, NM.
The City of Rocks
The city of rocks are these huge rocks that are in the middle of the prairie and there is no reason for them to be there but they are. It is one of only a few such cities in the world. Nate has been to two of the Cities of Rocks now. There is also one in Idaho. It was really cool and Lilly loved going in and out of the rock formations.
Fort Cummings, NM
Fort Cummings was a fort that was built after the Mormon Battalioncame through in 1846 and discovered Cooke's Spring. It was later made into a fort for Buffalo Soldiers. Nate's 4x Great Grandfather was in the Mormon Battalion so it has significance for him. There isn't much left but a few adobe and rock walls and the spring itself. But here are some pics.

This is the plaque that the church placed here in 1980. If you click on the picture, you can actually read it.
